Re: Blackstairs adventure race
I've signed up for the seven, I've a tandem and a single kayak if anyone wants a trial before race day. I'm taking the single kayak on the day, it's like a bullet, any takers for the tandem?
Re: Blackstairs adventure race
What are people planning on using? Runners or bike shoes on the bike?
We need a rucksack for all the mandatory kit I suppose.
Right Mike what's the tips for the canoe?

Re: Blackstairs adventure race
I've asked the organisers a few questions - so far:
Do we need to carry the first aid kit, jacket, survival blanket etc with us on the run, or can it be left with the bike?
drop your Kayak at the first bike drop along with his bike, someone there will make sure the Kayak is brought to the Kayak area in Graiguenemanagh and have it clearly visible on the day.

Water - will there be water available on the course to fill bottles? The madatory kit should be with you at all times. The kit can be quite small though and what I've done myself before is just put it into my cycling jersey pocket if you have one or if you prefer to carry a small bag. Survival blanket is just a tin foil blanket usually and wraps up small we might have a few there on the day if you need one.
Kayak - are we starting and finishing at the same point? I was thinking of kayaking barefoot to keep runners dry..There will be water at the Kayak area and at the 2nd run transition area (for 7 steps) where you can refill your bottles. You should leave full bottles of water on your bike when you leave your bike at first bike drop then you'll have water after you come down from the first run.
If you're bringing your own kayak:Yes the Kayak will start and finish at the same point in Graiguenemanagh , 1.5 KM towards Borris and then back again.

More info on the race:
Kayaks:
Actually just to let you know there will be kids races and bouncy castles etc in the GAA grounds on the day from about 12 along with BBQ etc .in case you have any takers for that .
Kayaks:
Kayaking in runners/bare feet:The supplied Kayaks are sit on top single ones , have a look here at last years photos which will prob give you a better idea
https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set ... 845&type=3
Also for the spectators:to be honest bar you fall in to the river I don't think you will really wet your feet as the lads will help pull you back out of the water and hopefully allow you to step on dry land , maybe best to gauge it yourself when you're there .
