We need a rucksack for all the mandatory kit I suppose.

Right Mike what's the tips for the canoe?
Going to do my best to avoid a rucksack - it'll mean carrying jacket, first aid, foil blanket, whistle and map (provided) in the cycling jersey.
Bars/gels on the bike, along with the toolkit etc.

After talking to Barry and Jim, I'm now leaning towards just wearing runners for the whole thing. Cycling shoes would be a strong preference, but it would involve changing footwear 6 times (!) and my runners are bulky in the camelbak.. Also means I'd need to bring a camelbak/rucksack.

Sounds fierce complicated all right !!!

Bike shoes or runners, Dilema, Personally I think I'll go for bike shoes, 6 changes at 30 sec each, Three minutes over four and a half hours, not really going to make much difference on the larger scale of things, And you know how Frank feels about cyclists wearing runners.

As for the Kayak. Don't fall in. Stick to the bank on the way upstream and get to the middle on the way back to take advantage of the flow if there is any.

Going to be one long enjoyable day :(

My two cent from doing a few of these before.
Runners forget bike shoes, changing when you are knackered and cramping not good
Carry absolute minimum, couple of plasters=medical kit
all should fit in cycling jersey, go for a run sat with all the kit
Bring dioralite salts especially if warm in case of cramp
All food on bike
Start easy!! Best of luck

Cheers Brian - pity you'll miss it.

Another thing needed on the day - sun cream! 17 degrees and sun forecasted...

Jasus Colm you are having some poor luck with injuries, its a pity u miss out, recover well as nd fast enough for your next race.

Best of luck to all Ye endurance dudes, enjoy it, getting yourselves organized seems complicated alright so pack lite and enjoy. My top tip stay close to Atully or Mike on the river they have that in the bag,....the first man home wins!!! Oh sorry its not that type of race!

Enjoy
