okay!, in a moment of madness i signed up to do the waterford adventure race this saturday......home ground n all, i thought i'd better!

havn't kayaked since doing an adventure weekend in the marlborough sounds in new zealand about 7 years ago but i'm taking the 'downstream' description as my blessing on that one!
anyway, a mandatory kit is required that is checked at registration so what i'm looking for is a survival blanket and whistle if anyone can lend me such a thing for the weekend- hopefully i won't need it! think iv got everything else.
also if anyone has any advice on what/how to carry food/drink supplies in the lightest way poss- reckon i'll be out for a fair few hours and want to be well supplied (hate being hungry!) but don't want to be carrying bulk.
gonna fit a 2nd drinks cage, have ordered a 1.5litre saddle bag (broke other one when i took a hit in the leadmines recently!), and have a 5litre rucksack with 2litre hydration bladder.
any tips or advice is welcome, bearing in mind that i have no intention on 'racing' this. aim: to enjoy my scenic home county and enjoy the day out !!!
thanks!
