Localish Races

Post by Dena »

There is a 9k on in gorey this Sunday, €10 entry. I did the route last night and it's a lovely course.

On 23rd June there is a good 10k called pink rock, about 5 min drive from newross.

Yes Brian I did this race last year (time flies huh!!)

The race itself is grand, its a tough enough course with one quite big climb in the first half, then a right kicker that would suck the life out of you just at the finish
The feed afterwards was large if a bit eclectic, I remember some of the Hogan clan filling up on Chinese takeaway of all things!!
There was a good atmosphere and plenty of locals out to do "the race" which always brings a nice atmosphere

It's not a race to bring the family to though unfortunately
Roads everywhere, but especially at start/finish area are very narrow
Mag had Sadhbh and Dena had her gang there last year (Tom and me racing)
There was very little room for them to wait and nothing for them to do whilst we were gone

Add to that the madman marshal who insisted on absolutely bombing it over and back and up and down those narrow roads at high speed in a Hiace sized van pulling a trailer with the PA system on it - very dangerous and a bit of an eejit I thought

This is getting a bit like Tripadvisor for races here I know but to finish off, a nice race, good value, arrive early (long warmup to get to start), don't bring the family, eat well after the finish, and don't be expecting a PB :D
Oh and you could collect my spot prize from last year when you're there, I never got back to pick it up ;)

Yeah, not very spectator friendly, but savage after race spread, and lots and lots of prizes.

The route has actually changed this year, it's backwards with a small change towards the finish.

Hogans will be there

Well John how did yourself and Mag get on. When i was running up the hill i was thinking of you pushing the buggy. well done. Nice route, a bit of a crazy start with all the bikes something they need to look at for next year, but other then that very well organized, what more would you want for a tenner.

I thought today was a really lovely event
Lots and lots of families out enjoying an organised spin together
Families of bikes, and the odd parents running beside chaps on bikes setup as well
Lots of groups of runners out too, didn't see too many buggies though
We had a good spin, Sadhbh telling Mammy "We're going really fast" and then wearing her medal all day showing everyone that she won the race
Nice to see a whole load of familiar faces in a run for a change even better when we were doing the overtaking :)
Massive crowd, I think it was 600+
Will surely be on again next year, a very worthy cause (The Hope Center), we'd do it again in a heartbeat

Pink rock - lovely course but was it hilly! 33.15 was some time by Tom seeing he had just run a 11km hill run the day before!
