TriAthy 2015
TriAthy 2015
Wishing our fellow club mates well this weekend as they take on TriAthy.
Newbie Eimear is out on her maiden voyage , have a great race and most of all enjoy it, soak up the pre race atmosphere and harness it as energy for the race. It will be electric and so will you.
Ciara good luck in your first Olympic Distance, the first of many, enjoy the swim and push hard like Liam is shouting at you! Looking forward to hearing all about the great day you had.
Last but not least the big Don, off in the sprint distance, hope you are back to usual form and smash it! Race hard and enjoy.

Re: TriAthy 2015
Well done to the 3 amigos. All three are happy with their performances and so they should be. A few lessons learnt as always but sur that's what makes it interesting. I'm sure they will recount their experiences at some stage below.
Re: TriAthy 2015
TriAthy 2015 saw three of the Racing 795 fraternity beckon the start line. I decided to register on Friday evening as I was on the way back from Dublin. 75 Mins later I got my stuff and out the door, not the usual efficiency associated with Athy.
Ciara Bowe was the first off on Saturday morning in the Olympic Distance at 9.30am. This was the first standard distance event for Ciara, so there was a little apprehension. It was clear right from the start that the nerves were quickly shaken as Ciara came out of the water in an amazing 29:20 time. T1 for the Olympic distance was quite long but Ciara was soon out onto the bike. Morning conditions were ok, but there was a strong head wind, which made the first part of the cycle difficult. It took a very solid 1:29:34 to complete the bike and was soon out onto the run. Ciara felt she suffered a little on the run but 53 minutes certainly didn't reflect that and back home in a very impressive 2:59:42 and the magical 3 hours broken on the first attempt. Super performance and 45th overall female
By the time I arrived in Athy, there were large tailbacks on all routes, registration was a nightmare, massive queues waiting on transition to open and it getting colder by the minute. Lots of unhappy people. I met Mike on the way in and then the MC for our race spotted the Racing 795 Jersey and was full of praize over the airwaves about our race a few weeks ago. The queues meant that the first race was delayed by well over an hour. Met Eimear in transition, who was starting her first ever triathlon. Lots of encouragment and soon we were in the water at 12 degrees . Eimear off in wave 4 and I was in Wave 8. The usual kicking and beating at the start saw us both soon get into the rhythm. Eimear came out in a very solid 17:18 and I was happy with my first race two years in 10.58. Don't know what happened to me in T1, but between being dizzy and falling over twice, it wasn't the usual slick exit. Out onto the bike and a strong and very cold headwind faced us. My average speed on the way out was 27kph, WTF. However on the way back, pushed out to 44kph average. Eimear came home in a solid 45:30 and i came back in 34.30.
The run course is always a bit dodgy in Athy and this year wasn't any different, however upon jumping off the bike at dismount, my feet were completely numb and to add to the torture, my legs were like jelly on top of the numbness, so I really struggled early in the run. Eimear meanwhile was flying towards her first triathlon finish and hit the finish in a very impressive 1:37:38. Super first result. My run was a mediocre 22:10 but happy with the overall time of 1:11:02.
The day was certainly about the ladies and both should be very proud. Ciara even stayed around from 8am to cheer us on in the rain and it was near 7pm before we crossed the line. Something going on with the organisation this year, which needs addressing, but other than that a very satisfying day all round and delighted to be back racing again.

Re: TriAthy 2015
Great report don , and a good race, some nice NS points picked up.
It's great to c the girls flying the 795 colours. In fact I think the women r kicking ass in the club from mountains biking , to marathons to triathlons lots of hard work and results across the board . Can the 795 men keep up?
