You wait ages for a podium finish and then 2 come at once! Following hot on the heels of Gary's DH success last week, a brilliant 2nd place for Rudolf in Ulster XC League Round 5 in Castlewellan today. Magnifico Rudolf! Can't wait to hear all about it.

I heard during the week that Castlewellan is the best xc course in the country. During the practice lap it became clear that this was a very intense course with lost of technical up and down hills some steep fireroad and a flat out (biggest gear) fireroad decent. Located in the Castlewellan forest park the ground was soft and slippy so big tyres were a must. During the first 2 laps i was able to keep a constant pace on the uphill and flow on the down hills. I started to pass riders and thought there would be a chance to get 3rd. With Rory Walsh making my life difficult by constant closing the gap i was pushing harder on the downhill resulting in a burb of my rear tyre. still enough air left to continue the riding style had to change and i was a bit more carefull on the decents in lap 4. with less air in the rear tyre climbing was better and the gap between me and Rory got bigger. On the last lap i was many times on the edge of cramping but the 34T ( rear sprocket) got me out of trouble. This was a long race and the terain suited my style of riding. Its the end of the XC season so i,m very happy with a podium.
