Triathlon Ireland National Series - Don Morrissey

Post by DavidF »

Don Morrissey stands at 34th overall (out of 2,500 competitors!) in the National Series and 7th in his (ultra-competitive) 35-39 age group.

This is testament to Don's high level of performance and consistency over the season, and to see one of the members of our young club mixing it with some of the big names of triathlon in Ireland is fantastic.

Well done Don!

Cheers guys, yea when I stood up on the weighing scales on the 5th January at 17 stone 1 pound (yes it's true  ) and then headed to swimming practice in Enniscorthy for the first time to watch all the fit guys in the club, if someone told me there and then that I'd do 7 triathlons, 1 aquathon and currently stand where I am in the rankings, I would have laughed heartedly, and what's better I enjoyed every minute of it all. There are a few races left on the calendar and few people still to claim points so I might drop a little but I'm approx 500 places higher than my expectations at the start of the season. Although if Martin finished the series he'd be ahead with Barry, David & PJ close by and next year we'll get Tom to graduate onto the Olympic distance so he'll be even further ahead, and Frank and John to sort the swim, then the rankings will be interesting in 2011 :D

The unfortunate part of all these events is that you actually have to take part (and complete  ) to score points.

Fair play to Don and everybody else who scored in the national series. Thats a fantastic achievement for Don. No doubt he will have a few others chasing his lofty position next year but it will take a great effort to consistently perform to that high standard.

I could make the trek to Lough Key on Sunday and Blacksod in 2 weeks and gather up a couple of million points but somehow I dont think thats going to happen.

Happy racing and roll on next year.
