Ballycotton 10 miler - Sunday 6th March 2011

Post by johnd »

The entry form for Ballycotton 10 mile race will be put up on their website tomorrow evening Tuesday 30th November at http://www.ballycottonrunning.com

Details of the entry procedure are here: http://www.ballycottonrunning.com/files ... cedure.htm
but basically they accept postal entries only and are always oversubscribed
Any racing 795'ers wanting to run in this who are not AAI members and want to race realistically need to get their entry in the post Tuesday evening or Wednesday latest
Those who are AAI members seem to have until Thursday 16th December for form to be received in post - but I wouldn't be hanging around either

I have never ran it before myself, but half the runners in the country seem to go mad each year to gain entry to it and I'm keen to see what all the fuss is about
And at €15 can't really go wrong

Have done this one in the past John, and it is definately one to do. Great atmosphere and very well organised. The course is ok with a hill finish but with all that mountain training it will seem only flat ;)
Enjoy it and as with everything it only gets better with a gang going.

Last time i did this race i was 6 mths pregnant so can't wait to go back and redeem myself next year!
It's a great race with a fantastic atmosphere.
I know a lot of clubs pick this race as a club outing, hire a bus and stick around after for a few drinks there is usually good Irish music and great craic, if anyone is up for a club social?

The full entry list for Ballycotton is out: http://www.ballycottonrunning.com/files ... 282%29.htm

It appears that there's not a Racing795 Dempsey, Furlong, Mimnagh, Hogan, Foley nor Mulvey in sight

Just wondering who applied for entry afterall, did the wise old owls down in Ballycotton fail to acknowledge our clubs AAI affiliated status??
Personally with the new baby I've given up on doing the connemarathon and am no longer that pushed about heading down to Ballycotton anymore, but as an AAI club, any club member who applied should have been guaranteed entry

I've sent an email off to them asking whats the story anyways

Who else applied for entry?

John,

I will check through the entries that weren't accepted and we will add all those from Racing 795 that arrived before the closing date.

Sorry about that, I'm sure the confusion arose with the name of your club - it probably didn't ring a bell as an AAI club!

Regards,

John Walshe

Hi Jo

I see the entry list for the Ballycotton 10 miler is out today. Your email is listed at the header of the page.

As an AAI member and also member of an AAI affiliated club I was surprised to find that my entry was not accepted. Nor do I see any other club members listed as entered. My own entry was sent in 1 or 2 days after you reached the inital 2500 cutoff, but would have been in plenty of time for the deadline for AAI members.

I am unsure as to exactly how many of my club members applied, but am currently attempting to find out.

Please can you explain why as an AAI affiliated club not one of us appear to have gained entry to your race?

Our club is Racing 795 and is based in Bunclody in Co Wexford.

My own AAI lifetime number is 160925.

Regards

John Dempsey

Looks like I may have snookered myself into having to go to it now, we'll see
