Still on a high from completing my first Oly tri I went and entered the Beast of the East Saturday night - sure why not
Don tells me that he's doing it this year as well, and the lads seemed to really enjoy it last year
Anyone else fancy heading up?

Well the Beast has been conquered, last seen whimpering off into the woods of Glandalough
. Great showing from the club with four poor souls facing the jaws of the Beast. Another seriously well organised and marshalled race. I knoocked seven minutes off my time last year so pretty happy with my time of 2:32:23. Then came the battle of the day between Brian and Paul, with Paul winning out with a superb run, his overall time was 2:44:30 and Brian shortly after in 2:48:17. John missed out the 3 hour barrier by just 12 seconds. All in all a great day, it was Brian's first Olympic Distance and Pauls 2nd Olympic and 2nd ever race, serious times from both of them on their first outing tackling the Beast. Brian is going to do the race report, aren't you Brian

Jaysus that's a tough one alright, delighted to have finished it though
Paid for my recent lack of swimming with an awful time, found the swim very hard going
The cycle was quite enjoyable in a sadistic sort of way, must be after watching bits of the tour de france this year?
Mantra on the way round was
'Gravity can go and F itself!!' repeat often enough and you'll find a way up any hill
Don asked why didn't I sprint to get under the 3 hour mark afterwards, but sure I was sprinting from halfway on the run, couldn't have given another ounce
Will hopefully be back again next year, a really great race with such a fantastic spread afterwards for competitors to enjoy and recover
Anyone thinking of doing it next year, book it now

I forgot to mention...
heading up the big hill at the start of the run, shuffling along really, I slowly edge my way alongside this fella in a trilogy trisuit
'we'd be better off walking' says I
'tell PJ Dunne he's too much of a chickens**t to do the Beast of the East' roars yer man, clocking my own trisuit
'PJ, sure he did that soft race in Kilkenny yesterday'
'he's too soft for this' says the bloke from trilogy
'what's the name and I'll tell him you said hi'
'Trigger'
'Good luck trigger, talk to you later' as I start to pull away
It was only 10 seconds later than I hear this sound like someone trying to route out a big lump of flem from the tips of their toes, swiftly followed by what I can only describe as the noise that a donkey might make if it was trying to puke out a cat
'you ok there trigger?'
'WHOOAAAAA ... yeah ... HUUUUAGH ... grand thanks ... HHHHHHHHUUUUUUUUUAAAAAAAA'
So I left him dry retching in the middle of the road halfway up the hill, but I can confirm he was still moving when I met him after the turnaround
