Lost Sheep 2011
Lost Sheep 2011
Is anyone doing this race next month? They realeased some more places. I'm hoping to head down.
Re: Lost Sheep 2011
Are you not doing the full in Kerry anymore, please don't put us all to shame and say your doing both!!!. Wish i'd have known there was more places i really loved this race, but just wouldn't get round the bike course now.
Re: Lost Sheep 2011
Couldn't send a fella to the cork/kerry mountains looking for sheep on his own.
I signed up on Monday. The rest of ye know ye want to - there's still 6 places left!
Slightly/Extremely (time will tell) foolhardy decision on my part....
This is my 2nd triathlon ever. My 1st being tri795 2010.
I have some major concerns:
The swim.
The cycle.
The run.
I have transitions sorted - i think.
How much food does a body need for this? What kind of food?
Any swim tips - I'm kinda concerned whether I'll make it out of the water in time...
I'd like to get my bike setup checked - any recommendations in the enniscorthy area?
Sod the run.
All/any advice on how to get to the finish line will be gratefully recieved.

Re: Lost Sheep 2011
Hi Fergal,
that's some race for your second ever triathlon.
How much food does a body need for this? What kind of food?
On a HIM I have a decent breakfast early on race morning; a gel about 20 mins before the swim and a gel every 20-30 mins or so on the bike. Maybe 2-3 gels on the run. It depends on your size and what works for you in training.
Any swim tips - I'm kinda concerned whether I'll make it out of the water in time...
Don't panic, its an easier swim course this year. If you get tired breastroke or stop for a rest - wet suits are great for this.
I'd like to get my bike setup checked - any recommendations in the enniscorthy area?
Revolve in Gorey is good, did my bike before the IM.
All/any advice on how to get to the finish line will be gratefully recieved.
Don't overdo it on the bike or you'll blow up for the run. Make sure you have reasonable gearing on the bike - don't be using a TT chainset. If you'r not a member of TI don't forget to get a one day licence.

Good man Fergal, best of luck with that
Don't forget that I've got a lovely shiny new trisuit with your name on it!!

Re: Lost Sheep 2011
Where's me name on it? Across the front or the ar*e of it? Or is me name only figuratively on it? The later option would be such a let down.a lovely shiny new trisuit with your name on it
The recommendation that I not use a TT chainset implies that I have more than 1 chainset to choose from. That is not the case. I have the one that came with the bike - whatever gearing that is.don't be using a TT chainset
Had to google chainset....
Think I'd best say very little to anyone at this race. Best be silent and appear stupid than speak and remove all doubt.
If only.... Once I get out of heavy traffic I'll be breaststroking. I can categorically state that for anything longer than a couple of hundred metres my breatstroke is faster than my front crawl. If you get tired breastroke
I'm just admiring my euphemistic "Once I get out of heavy traffic". That should read "when everyone's buggered off in front of me".
Re: Lost Sheep 2011
Best of luck Fergal, the only advice I can give is enjoy it, take it easy and eat along the way if you can. I have to say I'm looking forward to the Race Report, I think it might even surpass Niall's Report after the Wicklow 200 for the amusement factor.
Re: Lost Sheep 2011
........as long as he doesn't beat me...................
Re: Lost Sheep 2011
I'm out of this race I've a serious dose of man flu at the minute and even climbing a set of stairs puts me out of breath and sends me into a fit of coughing - so a half ironman isn't an option this week. I'm gutted, I really wanted to do this race. Best of luck to the lone 795'er, Fergal.
Re: Lost Sheep 2011
Tough luck Peter
