Sprocket Rocket Cycling Course for Kids

Post by racing795 »

We are delighted to announce that Racing795 will be starting the Cycling Ireland Sprocket Rocket Course on Saturday 30th August at 2pm at Our Lady of Lourdes NS, Bunclody. The course is being run by David Conway and David Furlong, both of whom are qualified Sprocket Rocket coaches. The course will initially run for 4 weeks (it's 12 weeks in total) - on the following dates:

30th August
6th September
13th September
20th September

This is a cycling skills programme aimed at 7-11 year olds. The aims of the programme are to:

• Providing a strong cycling skill foundation for newly recruited riders
• Skill development, including general cycling skills which will lay the foundation for more advanced learning of specific cycling skills
(Track, Road, Mountain Biking and BMX) in the future.
• Fostering enjoyment and “want” of participation
• Teaching riders fair-play and rules at their level, rather than promoting a win at all cost attitude
• Reducing the pressure of being thrown into competition without the necessary foundation skills
• Reduce burnout of youth and junior riders by over competing them at a young age.
• Provide direction to clubs and coaches on how to increase club participation through a standardized youth focused programme.

More details here: http://www.subwaysprocketrocket.ie/

The programme is a 12 week course which we will do in 3 blocks of four weeks, if there is sufficient interest. So we will start with 4 weeks and then hopefully continue to the next 4 weeks etc.. if the interest is there.

The cost of the course is €20 per child. For this, as well as coaching, your child will receive:

A welcome letter
A Sprocket Rocket Kit bag
A Sprocket Rocket T-shirt
A Sprocket Rocket Log book

For an extra €10 you can also get a helmet (recommended).

Requirements:

All riders enrolling in the Sprocket Rocket Programme MUST be able to already ride a bike. Riders are responsible for bringing their own bikes to each session, these bikes can be any kind as long as they have 2 wheels, front and rear brakes and are in good working order e.g. no stabiliser wheels or balance bikes.

We are offering this course firstly to children of members of Racing795 on a first come first served basis. We are limited to 18 so let us know asap if you want your child to take part.

Please indicate below if you are interested. We need to know by the latest this Saturday 23rd August.
