Half IM training plans?

Post by Elainegib »

Myself & Kevin 'considering' doing the Galway Half-ironman in June [blaming Joy for planting the seed].
Just wondering if anyone has any tried and tested training plans that we could have a look at? Any help appreciated. Better still, if someone could talk me out of it :-)
Thanks.

Elaine

Apologies, just seeing this now...

A plan is very specific to the person, the time they have available to train and how many months they want to dedicate to the hald IM.

There are many plans available on the web. Look through them and pick one that suits your availability to train, especially the hours required towards the heavy end of the schedule. Dont pick a plan that is over ambitious in the time you need to spend to complete - you will only get disheartened if you cant complete all the sessions. Consider this from the get go! One suggestion I would make is focus on time rather than distances on bike, swim and run as it would help prevent you overtraining on a day when weather conditions are trying on the bike and you have committed to a distance and dont want to quit! If you aimed for certain hr and for a length of time - then out and back (although boring) will ensure you stick to your plan. This is the benefit of hindsight of course - the only exact science :D

This was the ironman plan (thanks to PJ) that I tried to follow both times, after PJ tweaked it to add a 4 more weeks to it

So here are a few half's but reading the above plan will give you an idea where to pitch your efforts, knowing our ability (or lack thereof and times reached)

This is the same type of IM plan but for the 70.3

Hi Frank
Thanks a million for your advice and the plans, really appreciated! Mike also sent me a couple [thanks again Mike!]...so I have loads to consider, I"ll put together a 20 week one to suit myself [leaving out 'with hills' bits and 'maximum effort' bits :D ]. Thanks again and happy new year. Hopefully speak to you soon.
