MTB Training sessions

The only problem with our evening training sessions is we don't actually plan them. e.g. brilliant session last night but can't help thinking it would have been even better if we'd planned it better.
Suggestion 1
From now on we agree beforehand exactly what what we are going to do, e.g. 4 laps 6 laps, whatever.
Suggestion 2
Let's have some races. 4 laps. Elbows, Rider-up!s, the lot!. Mass start and self-timed in week one. Handicapped thereafter.
What do the rest of y'all think? Rudolf might think he's fast but I reckon I could take him!

First of all I reckon Rudolf is safe enough. Second it sounds like a lot of pain for a poor auld triathlete but what the hell im always up for something different.
mixture of both maybe a race every third week ?
does this mean no more ballypierce loop!!!!

Well I think the only place you will be taking him is up to the Halfway for a pint after he laps you on the 3rd lap
I like both suggestions. definitely need a plan. I would favour on an ordinary night doing maybe 5-6 continuous laps up top at a nice handy pace. That would be 50-60 mins for me. Probably a bit more for the rest of you
I also like the racing idea. To make it work we need numbers. So the same crew as last night plus as many others as we could get. Also maybe use the 'Big lap' ie up road, lap around the top, down Courtown to the gate. Maybe 2-3 laps of that? Now that would be savage and very like your typical race. Also agree with Barry, every 3rd week or so. Could stick it in the calendar so everyone knows.
Bring it on.

Disappointed with your lack of faith in me lads. The secret training sessions will commence and words will be eaten.

I better put my handlebar mirrors on to see when DC is making his move
They won't work, you won't see me coming. I'll be in stealth mode.

does all this race/training talk still leave room for recreational riders????????....i intend getting back into it once my new wheels arrive, but talk of laps, and times is a little off putting? what do other recreational riders think??????
on the other hand it all does make sense for those intending on racing so just wondering is it possible to do both?

hey aisling, of course there's room for everyone regardless of where they are level wise, reality is there's only 4-5 of us intending racing! and you might be one of them yet
what we have been talking about here mostly centres around the wednesday night spins
Sundays will always be for everyone, depending on numbers we will just prob have two groups, two times, whatever the numbers dictate.
Looking forward to seeing those new wheels!!
