Winter Sportives

Post by DavidF »

I see there a few relatively local sportives coming up over the next few weeks

Barrow Wheelers, start and finish in New Ross
http://barrowwheelers.com/index.php/new ... 2014-route

'and Laois CC, start and finish in Portlaoise
http://www.laoiscycling.com/pwc_index.php

Look like nice events for those looking to get in some early season miles

Thinking about doing the New Ross one. Anyone know what kind of pace that would be at. I might even spin down to it and back to add on 80 km. Any advice is greatly appreciated as cycling is my weakness and not sure if I really need to be doin that much.

Like all sportives it'll be a mixture of racer boys up the front and then other groups going at different paces.

there's some chat about it here: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthre ... p=88470012

Make sure you don;t turn up on your tt bike as you'll probably be turned away...as they wont allow tt bars riding in a group

Bill, I have never done a sportive before but this route looks relatively flat except for some long drags. I would be hoping to average 26Km per hour..?

From Barrow Wheelers:

Due to the adverse weather forecast for Sunday and in the interest of the health and safety of all the participants we have decided to defer the event to the following Sunday 2nd February 2014 starting from Good Counsel College, New Ross at 10am
