The big debut
Re: The big debut
Cool event David, thanks for the report
Re: The big debut
Looks a bit strange without any rain mud frost or snow. Must be hard going 1 hr of flat out racing in a park. Hope to get the CX bike ready myself and see what its like.
Re: The big debut
Good luck to DF once again, competing in tomorrow's Fixx Cyclocross Cup Race 2 in Bray. Should be a good bit muddier than Round 1 which may give our mountain biking hero a chance to pick off some roadies
Re: The big debut
Going to be fun in the muck - best of luck DF!
Re: The big debut
Good luck in the muck should be a new experience from last time
Re: The big debut
Cheers lads
It was indeed very different from last time. The course was completely different: a tough climb up a grassy slope with steep kickers; then onto a set of uphill steps; then back down to where you started via some tight off camber corners, long straights and a few drops. Then repeat another 6 times There were no hurdles this time as there were no flat spots to put them !! The setting was stunning - on the lower slopes of Bray Head looking down on Bray and the sea
Anyway it was a similar sized field as the last day. I wasn;t to optimisitic on my practice laps as i thought i'd be murdered on the long climb, so off we went as usual up the first hill at what felt like max hr +50% Held a decent position with around 20 behind me (out of about 60) for the first 3 or 4 laps. Course was muddy, but everything was rideable. Saw a few big wipeouts and had one myself on the last lap, but the ground was soft...
Happy enough with how it went, got lapped on my 6th lap, no shame in that in these short lap races....everyone bar the first 10 in the 'A' race were lapped.Finished in about the same place as the last race. Getting to like this cx lark now, roll on the next one - Tymon Park Tallaght 10th November
Big well done to Robin Seymour,Team WORC and the sponsors for a flawlessly organised event. And thanks to Joy and the kids for cheering me on ( you're still not last Dad)

Re: The big debut
I have to say, this concept looks great. It's hard to believe you could go down a grass field on a road bike and deal with muck and jumps etc. Mad
