swimming coral leisure
talking to alex williams this evening- he will be putting on a masters swim session either tues or thurs evenings at 9pm at coral leisure courtown, starting october sometime. he asked me to put the word out to gauge interest as at least 6 swimmers required to start it- 2nd lane to follow if interest is there. flyers will be posted at coral leisure or maybe contact him there to register interest. Might suit people on this side of the county!- just passing on the word!
Re: swimming coral leisure
Cheers Aisling, would be interested in this alright
What sort of level would you need to be at for this do you know?
Tuesdays are better for me

Re: swimming coral leisure
a savage! i asked ivanna about masters swimming once, she told me you would want to be comfortably sub 1:45 for 100m to be a competitive masters swimmer. Alex Williams swam 8:25 for the 500m in tri795...johnd wrote: What sort of level would you need to be at for this do you know?

I'm not trying to race him or anything, like I was thinking more along the lines of how many meters would you be expected to cover in the session - 2,000? 3,000? 4,000

Re: swimming coral leisure

Re: swimming coral leisure
sure if nothing else it will turn you into a savage!
Re: swimming coral leisure
I'd be interested in this. As far as I know most masters sessions are about 3,000m of mixed sets and drills. For some masters session syou need to be able to swim at least two different strokes, but if this is geared towards triathletes then this is probably not required.

Savage
I'm interested

Re: swimming coral leisure
Was talking with Alex this morning
Says that he really doesn't want to be teaching people how to swim, as in kick off the wall and only manage a few strokes
Once people are able to churn out the lengths he seems happy enough, he saw my efforts and didn't say 'not you' so judge for yourselves from that I suppose
Is looking at hopefully getting in two lanes, an Intermediate and an Advanced lane
Also mentioned Wednesday morning 7:30 as a possible slot
Starting 2nd week in Oct to give Don time to rest for Sept after his heroic tri season
I might have made that last bit up
