mtb racing 2012 and Munster xc League

Post by DavidF »

I've been studying the mtb calendar to see what I'm going to do next year, racing wise.

The NPS is a bit weird - there's only one round in Leinster, two in Munster and two in the north. The first round is up in the air as EPIC have been refused a permit. As a series it doesn't appeal to me - the Leinster round is in Bellurgan Park - Dundalk, not one of my favourite venues, the Munster rounds are in Carrigaline and Killarney and the North is the North. So none of the NPS races are exactly accessible. The National Champs are also in d'North.

So what to do? I see that the Munster clubs are putting on a 5 round league starting in late January. Apart from a round in Killarney they look do-able in 2hrs-ish. And in places I haven't been before. So I think I will give them a go.

But of course there's no fun going on your own....Anyone?

Hello I havent made any plans yet. first have to get rid of my knee injury then i can make some plans. but it sounds good riding a few new tracks. Ill let you know after the new year but i would like to go to some of them. there is also the biking blitz http://www.biking.ie/biking-blitz . with 2 rounds not to far from home. this might be a good race for the newbies to mtbing.

Remember the last time you saw a Furlong on an Anthem on a downhill course....Think Spain, February 2010... ;)

Well I'm going to race as much as possible, but picking races that suit me, not necessarily committing to any one series. The Munster ones look good and I'll do one or two if I'm fit. Later in the season the Marathon Champs is a great race in a great venue. Not to be missed!
Brian, the Biking Blitz events are beginner friendly and great fun and I would definitely recommend them as an intro to racing. I'll probably do one or two of them myself.

There's a delay in issuing 2012 CI licences:

Bring the email receipt of payment of the 2012 licence with you on Sunday.
