In the 'mens' category, I see 4 out of the top 5 are KCC - same guys were in the top 5 in S4 in Tracton Woods.
Were they doing the same track as you guys? Compare the lap times..

why are you wasting your time? they are battling for podium positions...To call them bangers is not quite fair, they are young guys racing for the first time. Also, you can;t change category mid-season.

I could say the same about S3 - the top guys there could be racing S2. But my competition is not those guys, it's all the other guys within a minute or two of me, like DC. We had a fierce, heart exploding battle yesterday - that's what its about. I couldn't give two hoots about the guys on the podium..

You should be focusing on how to get ahead of Brian Mc and the others around you and not be worrying about the lads who are occupying the head of the field

You're right there Don.

We had a right battle. I spent the first two laps hanging on to DC's tail for dear life, gaining slightly on the climbs and losing time on the descents..but alway within a few hundred yards

When I passed him going into the singletrack on the third lap he shouted something at me - I think it was somethin bizarre along the lines of 'you look like xxxx' I won;t say who - wtf?? I thought I was having the aural version of hallucinations, or else it was some bizarre tactic to make me laugh my ar$e off an fall over or something..

Anyway by the time we exited the singletrack for the final time he was stuck on my wheel again. So with one last long climb left I knew I had to get into the last bit of singletrack about 200m clear to have any chance. Given I was on the limit that was a big ask. So we exchanged a few pleasantries eg 'I'm quare bollixed' 'me too' etc...I slowly increased the pace and when I felt I was getting a gap put the hammer down. Except it's hard to put the hammer down when you're already at 95% HR.Sort of like a rubber mallet...I thought I had slipped away but then on the last steep kicker here he appears like the devil on my shoulder..

And that was that. We live to fight another day. it's great to have close rivalry with a clubmate like that in a race because it means you will give 110% and be guaranteed to leave nothing out there. mtb racing is quite tactical as well - will I go now, will i sit on his tail etc..etc..so all good fun. Next time i'll remember not to talk of blown gaskets but rather put on a brave fresh face ;)
