MTB Spin Sat June 21 Night

Post by Mr Scuttleman »

Thinking of heading out tonight and go over Mt Leinster. Summer solstice so hopefully plenty of daylight. Flexible. Plan was to head from Croaghan barrier around 6. Can head to town and leave earlier or later.
Best to text at this stage.

Came back across Mt Leinster. Actually walked a fair bit. Needed to get back to the car in UCP.
Came down Mt Leinster. In a hurry to get home. I had to slow for an annoying couple who just would not get out of the way. They made a point of not moving. I lost a lot of time. Still second to Janos Kohler!! That means other 795 MTB members could get a lot closer as I am one of the slowest in most areas.

Well here's my tuppence worth... Racing down that road is not wise. It is a well known family walking spot. If I was walking up there and saw you coming I'd have made a point of slowing you down too! I'm all for free will and personal responsibility but in my opinion Strava shouldn't allow segments like that. We can debate it on the next spin! :D

To illustrate my point, watch this idiot and look at his stats, avg 70kph, topping out at over 90! All the while blithely assuming that every walker will see him and politely (and nimbly) step aside.

Impressive bike handling it must be said, but he should have had the road closed first.
