bike lights

Hi there

Anyone got an opinion on these 900 lumen LED bike lights from Dealextreme?

Yes, I know the sometimes dodgy quality from DX, but that aside there's a load of posts on mtbr.com about these - a lot of them very positive.
There's also a 1400 lumen, 3 light option http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.36018 but no helmet mount with it.
Hard to beat these prices also.

I'm primarily thinking of lights for mountain biking.

Thoughts? Anyone else using these or what other options are there?

I have one of the 900 lumen lights and it is fantastic, i think it worked out at €58 all together, i used it all last winter without fault, i also have a nukeproof Reactor light which cost over 200 bucks and it's not as good as the deal extreame light. The only thing i would say is that the battery pack isn't sealed, so when you get one just stick a bit of sealant around it and you'll be fine.
The 1400 lumen one is fairly good looking too, don't worry about a helmet mount, they can easily be made, i made one myself that i could show you.

Should have mentioned that on Wednesday, Gary demo'd the Dealextreme 900 lumen SSC P7 LED headlight side by side with a Nuke Proof headlight - with the a similar P7 LED in it - same brightness.
The Nuke Proof looked like you could reverse over it alright, but it's 4 times the price.

So - do you old-time MTBers go around with candles or what?

Not sure what the old timers use but I have had these halogens bar mounted for a couple of years and they've served me well.

I felt I needed a helmet light too so I bought a cheap chinese LED which has been very successful.

Some of the lads have all LED Ay-UP sets . they tick all boxes, light, bright, long battery life... they are pricey though.

Bit free and loose with the "oldtimers" me thinks
I use the ayup helmet light and the lumicycle halogen bar mounted bit more expensive but has always worked well for me
for €58!!, worth a punt on dealextreme ones especially if gary has already got a set and they are working well.

Got a letter today from the customs office. Charging me 21% VAT + 6 euro handling = 20.02 euro for the bike light + two extension cables.
Apparently if the value is over 20 euro - and An Post/the courier company send it to them - they will charge this and can charge additional 'customs duty' if they wish.
Could be worse but it's a first for me.
