Jim, Rudolf and DavidC were flying the flag for the club in the National Champs in Djouce, Wicklow yesterday. A mixed bag for the lads as bad fortune in the form of punctures and burps (tyres that is) dropped them down the field. A good day was had though at what was one of the biggest mtb events ever organised in this country.
And a certain Robin Seymour won his 16th national XC championship at 37 yrs young!!

Re: National XC mtb Championships
This was a great day out. The weather gods shone on us and the track was in great condition. Two punctures scuppered my chances of a first ever mtb podium but what the hell I was there.
The track was very rooty and slippy with some steep technical descents and some sharp steep uphills. A true test of all mtb skills which led to a tough but fair course.
Well done to DC and Rudolf for a great day out.

Great day out - great fun course to ride but tough to race! Thanks to Gary for the loan of the front wheel, it helped a lot, despite the flat.
We really should organise a savage spin in Djouce when all this summer madness settles down a bit.

You were flying too! I'd say those top vets were relieved to see you trackside with tube in hand.lazyboypops wrote:Two punctures scuppered my chances of a first ever mtb podium...

great event. I had a good start and the first lap went wel. lost my concentration in the second lap and had a few near offs. so i pulled out of the race. Iwould rather drive home in my own car then being driven by a ambulance. next time I will be back racing hard. well done to Jim and David for doing a good race and Paddy for supporting.
