There was a show on BBC4 the other night - 'Ride of My Life - The Story of the Bicycle'
Interviewed Joe Breeze and Charlie Kelly (early MTB pioneers), riding the original mountain bike downhill course in California - Repack.
Named as by the time they got to the bottom of the trail, the brakes were in the hub - drum brakes (remember those bikes?! ) - all the grease had boiled out of the hub and it had to be 'repacked'
Course record held by - guess who - Gary Fisher.
First race won in 1976 by the only rider who didn't crash!
