Club Cycle Road Race for All
Re: Club Road Race for All
Coming from Bunclody via main Carlow rd , take the slip road for Kildavin , right at end of slip rd, right at next T junction then immediately left , it's about 200m down on the right .

Location of meeting point is here
Spellman Park

Please note that any club member that are not partaking in this event are more than welcome to come along for a cuppa at 8.15. A few might retire to Conways pub for a pint after, so bring dollars!
The route has been marked and has 4 left hand turns and one straight thro junction.

It is a 25km loop for both men and women. We have two intermediate sprints planned along the route. Each sprint finish line is highlighted 500 metres before by a R795 yellow 1 and 2 run km marker sign - these are on the road verge.
All turns and finish lines for two intermediate sprints and actual finish lines are marked on the road in yellow spray paint.
The first intermediate sprint finish line is at approx halfway and the second is at approx 20km
This race is one of three and so there is a points system to decide the overall winner in the ladies and mens races.
Points system is as follows:
Overall winner of each race gets 10 points, second gets 8 points and third gets 6 pints.
Winner of each intermediate sprints gets 3 points, second gets 2 points and third gets 1 point.

Well done Frank Burke on organising a very successful race last night...and the feed of pints after in Conways was even more enjoyable...A great turn out...

Well done to all who took part. Here are the results after the first night. Ladies group averaged 26kph and completed the 25km course in a little over 55mins. The first men home covered the course in 41:30 and an average speed of 35.5kph

we are changing the next Road Race date to Friday August 26 (as there are a few tri's on that members have signed up for).
Ladies go off at 7.10pm and Men at 7.30pm
We are considering the prospect of letting a group of men go ahead of the top three, giving a minute or two head start and Patsy, Mick and Matt have to work to catch ye. Will let know closer to the time. However, if you want to go in the earlier group, be at the start line from 7.25pm
We can also do this for any group of ladies who wish to cycle but not race - can let you off at 7pm and again - we can all finish together and then have the most important part - the cuppa and chat.
It was great to see so many members there the last night and would extend the invite to any others that didn't make it the last night to rock up with a bike or call up for 8.15 for a cuppa.

Well done to everyone on Friday night it was an enjoyable race and the tea and biscuits was nice too . A head start sounds like a fair idea for the next race there is good difference in experience between lads there and if it levels the playing field I think it's a good idea . It gives everyone something to race for .
