Where is Corrabut?

Post by pcoulahan »

Eehhh, as the title says, where exactly is this famous Corrabut hill / climb? Bored of doing hill repeats of the 9 stones and Frank tells me Corrabut is a million times harder. As you can tell I'm not local so if someone could give me simple directions from Ballon / Bunclody that'd be great.

Here you go Peter, directions from Ballon. Corrabut Gap at point B. Don't know if it's a million times harder but it's fairly steep. Why not use it as a warmup before heading across to the 9 stones and heading up to the transmitter?

Thanks David. I'm actually planning to try and get up to the transmitter on the road bike so I'm building up to that :D

I've only ever gone to the transmitter on the MTB but it's doable on a road bike if you have enough gears. If you need any motivation remember Ross's rule. Once inside the gate at the 9 stones, it's non-stop to the top or you have to start again.

Its the fear of being overtaken by a young wan pushing a buggy that'll keep me going

Anyone know how far it is from the gate to the top?

Pretty sure its 2.4k at about average 15%. There are stretches near the top well over 20%.

I'm sure its on a super Sunday spin on my garmin connect page - you will find links under the spins forum to it

Last time I was up there - I think with dc and Ross - there was a couple pushing a buggy near the top - it took an awful long time to catch them :)

Haven't climbed ( on a road bike anyway) it this year yet but did it 3 times last year
Got up to mast last two times with out walking
Yeah about 2 km and David right hits 18-20% near top
Give me a shout when thinking of doing it and I'll join you

Ps Brian Shaugh and myself ran up to mast on the road from gate if that's counts
