In the name of science I have tried out some of these with these results.

Firstly got the cheapo cordial surprisingly difficult to get the ones that arn't the "no added sugar" option even in the cheap brands. The one I got when mixed to the ratio 60gms of carbs to 1000ml is pretty sweet and a lot of it would take a bit of getting used to.

Next went for a bag of glucose for €1.50 for 500gms which is supposed to be better than sugar again mixed it up to the ratio and added some no added sugar cordial to add a bit of flavour they must be using a lot of sweetener in these cos it was shocking sweet yuck!!.

Lastly went for same ratio with 4 table spoons of pure lemon juice per 1000ml this was the winner for me may not be to everyones taste I dont like stuff too sweet might try lime juice aswell.

Also Lo salt is better to use than table salt, it is 1/3 sodium chloride 2/3 potassium chloride, table salt is all sodium chloride, all the material on the subject says a mix of both is best and unless you are sweating an awful lot a pinch will do.

Then I reckon adding 200mg of caffine to your bottle on race day for super go go juice

Still all are super cheap compared to branded options about 20c a bottle and even the caffeine is only £4.49 for 100 200mg tablets which only adds about 5.5c a bottle

Barry seems to have the recession busting sports drink market pretty much sorted. So I'll throw in my tuppence worth with a recession busting recovery drink. DIORALYTE anybody with kids will have loads lying around it costs around 40 cent a packet and one packet will replace just about all the salts etc. lost through strenuous exercise. And it comes in a range of flavors.
